Scrap the Boys August Challenge

Back today to share my take on the Scrap the Boys August challenge to scrap your boy/man using a 5x7 or larger photo. I chose to scrap my boy, here is my page:

This photo still makes me laugh! I caught the cats trying to "help" my boy eat his breadroll, yes they wanted some of his breadroll... our cats are strange! It was a bit of a challenge to scrap a photo this big, I am so used to 4x6 or smaller! But I am happy with the end result. Lots of Aussie products on this page too! Colour Blast, Cocoa Vanilla, Charms Creations, Rainbow Splendour, Burdy's Embellies and Flutterby Designs! Phew! What a line up!

Of course I had to use a cat Charms Creations heart!! I don't think there are any of these left now, but you can still get all kinds of different hearts here.

And how cute is the cat paperclip from Burdy's Embellies?! I love the felt chevrons from Rainbow Splendour too, so easy to use.

So that is it for today, thanks for stopping by.

Last Day for Scrapbooking Top 50 January Challenge

Did you get a chance to do the January challenge at SBT50? It was a great quote to inspire:

And you could be inspired by the colours and patterns in the image too, which I was! Love any opportunity to add a bit of gold to the mix! So this is the page that I created inspired by the image and quote:

I used part of the quote as my title and the colours of mint, blue and gold, lots of gold! Can you spy some of the Burdy's Embellies on my page too?  I used a rainbow splendour stencil with some gold texture paste and I loved how it came out.

There is a gold and black hexagon layered with a DIY banner from Charms Creations.

And check out the sweet gold spotty button near my title, perfect little finishing touch!

So hurry if you haven't done yours yet, you still have a little bit of time!

Kraft+ for June

Better a bit late than not at all, and it is still June and plenty of time to do this challenge so all is not lost!

This month at Kraft+ the challenge is this:

Definitely one that you can have a lot of fun with. I kept my page reasonably simple, but with lots of bright colour! I have been waiting to use this Kaiser Craft range of paper for some time, and with black and white photos and Kraft background this was the perfect opportunity.

I found a free image on line of a puzzle and then created a cut file for my Silhouette, then all I had to do was decide which papers to use!

Add in some gorgeous foil flair from Flutterby Designs...

A gorgeous teal heart from Charms Creations and wood veneer from Rainbow Splendour...

and a few other little bits and bobs and the page was done!

Make sure you head over to the Kraft+ blog to check out the other great designs by the creative team and have a go yourself.

More Scraplifting

It is almost the end of the month, but you still have time to do a quick scraplift of one of the Charms Creations Creative team and enter! Check out the challenge here.

Today I am sharing the page that I created based on a layout by the lovely Amanda. Firstly here is the page that inspired me:

For my page I followed the basic design and used many of the same elements (because I just happened to have them in my stash!), but I went with a colours. So here is my page:

I went with bright happy shades of orange creating my background, and it definitely was a little messier and less contained than on Amanda's page, buy hey, I was in the zone!

I just love this shade of orange for my Charms Creations heart, just a beautiful shade, and can you see lots of Flutterby Designs too!  And who can go wrong with the sequin bows from D-lish Scraps?

These wood veneer tabs from Flutterby Designs are awesome to use, nice and thin so easy to add to you page without any bulk.

Make sure you load up your scraplifts!

Kraft + April Share

Well I have to admit to another month disappearing in a flurry of activity here, how about you?! This year really feels like my catch phrase will be "so much to do, so little time".....

Anyway, I do try and give myself some creating time here and there, and I am sharing my take on the current Kraft+ challenge, which is Black and White and Kraft and a funky mood board, a pretty great combination I must say.

There is lots of great inspiration on the board too. I was drawn to the framed quotes particularly the different fonts, the dotty gift and also the circles of the plates. This is what I finished with:

I thought that this photo of the Brisbane wheel at night was a great choice given that it almost looks like a black&white photo, and for the circular element too. I have also been trying to use more stamping on my pages so created some patterned paper effects with word stamps using white and black ink. The white stamping is on a separate piece of kraft cardstock while the black stamping is directly on the background card. After this I just started adding suitable bits from my stash!

I love these wood veneer crosses from Rainbow Splendour and have coloured them with black ink to suit the page. Here this one is layered with half a vellum bow also from Rainbow Splendour, a Charms Creations chevron, ticket from Flutterby Designs and a couple of other little bits. The journal spot is from D-lish Scraps and they are my favourite to use!

In this little cluster is the other half of the vellum bow, another Charms Creations and another cross, but I love the big glitter ampersand and flair. The flair is from D-lish, and the die cut from a Heidi Swapp pack.

Finally, more little bits, the bingo card came from one of Rainbow Splendours kits from last release, a great thing for layering, and the little spotty bag was a D-lish Scraps goody.

There is still time for you to get your black and white on and create a page for Kraft +, I hope you have a go!

Rainbow Splendour Share

This month over at Rainbow Splendour we are focusing on wood veneer. I don't know about you, but wood veneer is one of those things that I seem to "collect", and the wood veneer from RS has been amazing.

So, my page is quite simple, relying on a mixed media background and the wood veneer for the main focus.

I used some of the wonderful texture paste from Colour Blast with a Flutterby Designs stencil. Then I played with colour over the top with the texture paste resisting the mists and water colours.

The word I "painted" with a bit of gold texture paste to make it look dip dyed, and the rainbow I coloured with some distress marker pens, I was pleased with how vibrant the colour came out, as I didn't prepare the wood in any way beforehand.

Oh and I managed to fit a pretty pin in too, because there is always room for one of these!

Is it time to get out your wood veneer?

Charms Creations Share

I don't know about you, but I love Charm's mixed packs that she puts out in a sale every now and then, and the most recent sale was full of lots of gorgeous packs. Alas I didn't get to any of these in time, but I was not too worried as I still had some left over from other sales!

So I decided to try and put one of these packs to good use and show you how you can get just about all your embellishing needs for a page done with one of these and still have a few bits left over! I picked a gorgeous blue themed pack that worked well with one stand out colour in the photo that I had chosen, then it all came together pretty quickly.

So, from the pack are: heavenly heart, super star, paper doily, project life cards, twine, small crocheted doilies, wood veneer heart and coloured bulldog clip. The only extras added were the splash of pink enamel hearts from D-lish Scraps, the vellum bow from Rainbow Splendour, Flair from Flutterby Designs, word stickers from Crate Paper and the wood veneer title which was from Freckled Fawn. Too easy!

I love layering with Charms, it is especially easy with wood veneer and stickers.

The clip was a great way to add the bow too, layered with a few other bits to make another little cluster.

And I couldn't go past adding some metallic flair (in the perfect colour of course!) to this little cluster. I love the twine on the heart too.

So there you go, a page almost completely done with one kit.

Scrap the Girls February

Thought I had better jump on and share my sample for the Scrap the Girls February challenge! This month we have a pretty awesome inspiration board, and I just loved it!

I think it was the gold that made it for me! And gold combined with black, such a striking combination and that is what I went with on my page. I also had a play with some different techniques and ideas and I really love the page that I finished with.

Lots and lots of gold! Lucky I have been collecting gold or I would have been stuffed! I started with using my Minc toner pen (when it was working, but that is another story...) to create dots on the black background, they are roughly in line and similar size but some do tend to veer off with their own ideas! I foiled these with gold (of course!) and that gave me my starting point.

Continuing on with the foiling I decided to try foiling my Charms Creations DIY Star, and guess what? It worked! Last for the foiling was my title, which I wrote onto cardstock with the toner pen and then added the gold and cut around. Can you see some of the other gorgeous gold goodies? There is a gold foil flair from Flutterby Designs and a gold foiled vellum bow from Rainbow Splendour. It all looks so pretty in this gold cluster!

I wanted to add some other interest on the background so used some gold texture paste from Faber Castell and a script stencil. I had some gorgeous gold foiled vellum and a doily which I used to mat my photos and finished off with some gold glitter stars and embossed stickers.

And just when you think I couldn't add in any more gold, I used my gold motex tape to do my journaling!

It might be gold overload but I love it!

Show Us Your Stuff January Challenge

Happy Australia Day! Mine was spent chilling at home, smelling the lamb roasting in the slow cooker! And it was yummy too!

Popping in for a quick share today to show you the page that I created for the SUYS January challenge. The challenge this month is to be inspired by the following mood board:

Very soft and pretty and all about summer! I decided to pull out some of my Cocoa Vanilla papers and I ended up with this page:

I guess my colour scheme was soft blues mixed with a bit of orange, but they needed to be on the softer side because of the mix of colours in the photo! I have used a bit of handmade stuff too! Can you see the subtle stencilling? That is from one of the great stencils at Flutterby Designs and it was used with some distress ink.

To start with there is a gorgeous lush lollipop from Charms Creations, the Project Life card was also from Charms Creations as a part of one of the great kits that come out every so often (the lollipop was a part of that kit too!). The wood veneer is also from an Aussie business, but they are no longer dealing in scrapping stuff and for the life of me I can't remember their name!

Here is a cute heart pretty pin from Rainbow Splendour, in the perfect colour too!

And lastly a cool chevron (also from the kit) also from Charms Creations to finish things off.

So there you have it, my page for the January Show Us Your Stuff mood board.

Rainbow Splendour Page

This week is my first "official" week of sharing over on the Rainbow Splendour Facebook page. I decided to mix a bit of old and new goodies on this page and also do a bit of altering to show you how you can jazz up something older to make it like new again!

I call this my "made in Australia" page, and my reasoning behind that is the page is full of Aussie goodies. From the obvious Rainbow Splendour embellishments, to the Cocoa Vanilla paper (and some extras), Flutterby Designs stencil and Colour Blast texture paste. It goes to show we have a thriving industry here that needs supporting!

So, here is the page:

Isn't the colour on that texture paste divine?! This colour is called "just blue" and there is a gorgeous pearly glimmer too.

Did you grab one of the cool little robot wood veneers in the last sale? He is so cute, I coloured his little heart in with stickles (worn lipstick if I remember the colour correctly!) I thought he was a good addition to this page with my boy when he was just a little tyke.

And check out the "older" polaroid frame. I jazzed it up by repetitive stamping using stayz-on ink. The stamping isn't perfect, but it does the job!

I will be back later in the week with another share. Thanks for stopping by.

New Month, New Year, New Challenges!

Happy New Year! I hope you celebrated the new year just the way you wanted! I did, which meant normal time in bed and up the next morning as usual. We have discovered that our sleep routine is much more important than staying up to see the clock tick past midnight.

Along with a new year we have a new month and hence loads of new challenges. I have a few pages to share for some of the great challenges out there, but I won't overload you with them all in one post (not to mention confuse myself too, it doesn't take much these days!).

I am going to start with Scrap the Boys, as this is my last month on the creative team. It has been a great team to be on and I will continue to *try* and do the challenges. I am looking forward to seeing who will take over the reigns.

This month is an inspiration board with a great mix of colours, but not ones you might automatically reach for on a boys page.

And this is the page that I created:

I loved using some Flutterby Designs flair (perfect place for boy themed flair if you are looking!) and one of their cool stencils.

Still loving the DIY Charms Creations, this time an arrow with a splattering of purple. I misted some different greens on cardstock (actually a failed first attempt at an idea for this page!) and then drew my title and cut it out. White gel pen helps make it pop on the green background.

Here is a cloe up of that cool boy flair I was talking about, and you can see the pattern from the stencil too.

I hope you go and check out the rest of the team's inspiration and maybe have a go at this challenge too. You might just find you love these colours together just as I did!

Scrapping Clearly October Sketch

Good Morning!

I am still going on sharing creations from my scrappy weekend (that now seems a distant memory...). Today I am sharing my take on the sketch over at Scrapping Clearly.

A pretty great sketch I must say! And this is what I created:

I think my favourite thing about this page is the colours. The greens mixed with a little bit of orange.

And of this Charms Creations heavenly heart was a perfect fit for the page too. I am also loving the wood veneer that I picked up recently from Flutterby Designs. I think I may need to go and do another order!

So that is it for today.

Show Us Your Stuff September Challenge

Good Morning! I am trying to get back on track with my creating and slowly I am getting there. I have had a mini break (mainly because of other activities taking up my time), and as much as I want to get crafty again I am still feeling in a bit of an exhausted rut. But I know once I get a few pages up my sleeves and things slow down a little it should turn around.

Having said that I did just complete my first September challenge! I decided to do the Show Us Your Stuff challenge which was simply:

I decided to run with a hot pink colour for my extra colour and I used a Charms Creations star for my handmade embellishment. This is the page I created:

We had a new little girl join our extended family in June and I decided that some pictures of my eldest (and also eldest cousin) holding the youngest would make a good page, and hot pink worked well this too! I used some gorgeous Amy Tangerine papers, they were in just the right colour and some picked raspberry distress ink (also the perfect pink) in the mix with the black and white.

How cute is the little skull button on the Charms star?! I know you don't automatically associate a skull with a baby page, but it is cute and I think it works! And there peeking out is one of my favourite scrapping items, the D-lish journal spot!

Lately I have been playing with brush script and decided to use my own writing to create the title. I have found that a size 1 round brush with water colour paint has worked well for me. Loving the look and I plan on experimenting a lot more with this.

I recently purchased some cool stencils from Flutterby Designs (along with some other goodies!) and this word stencil is one of those. I have used gesso through the stencil (quite thick) as it is a good resist medium. Can't wait to play some more, and I might just need some more of their stencils!

So, that is it for today, thanks for stopping by,

Katie x
