Scrap the Boys - January 2018

Well it has been a long time between posts. Many challenges are moving to Facebook now, making the blog less and less necessary, so I can see it is only a matter of time before it won't be used...

But until then I will still pop in with the odd post! Today I am sharing the January challenge for Scrap the Boys which is to use flowers on a boy page. Easy!

And this is my take:

I had this great Boys Fort collection from Pink Fresh Studio that I had yet to use, so using that was my first challenge (for myself!). I had this great picture of my two boys and decided that some flowers cut from the patterned papers would be a good way to go. I used a free cut file from Paper Issues and cut some hibiscus flowers and leaves in a couple of different papers and sizes, then I was half way there. I used some distress oxide ink in antique linen with a triangle stencil to break up the white just a bit too.

I used mostly the coordinating embellishments that I had for the collection, but added a Charms Creations black and tan arrow (which was a perfect colour addition by the way!) layered with a few bits and pieces.

Another little cluster with a wood epoxy, word sticker and some tags. I used some brown paper twine in the tags and secured them with my tiny attacher (one of my favourite tools!).

Well, that is all from me for now, thanks for stopping by and catch you later.

Scrap the Boys August Challenge

Back today to share my take on the Scrap the Boys August challenge to scrap your boy/man using a 5x7 or larger photo. I chose to scrap my boy, here is my page:

This photo still makes me laugh! I caught the cats trying to "help" my boy eat his breadroll, yes they wanted some of his breadroll... our cats are strange! It was a bit of a challenge to scrap a photo this big, I am so used to 4x6 or smaller! But I am happy with the end result. Lots of Aussie products on this page too! Colour Blast, Cocoa Vanilla, Charms Creations, Rainbow Splendour, Burdy's Embellies and Flutterby Designs! Phew! What a line up!

Of course I had to use a cat Charms Creations heart!! I don't think there are any of these left now, but you can still get all kinds of different hearts here.

And how cute is the cat paperclip from Burdy's Embellies?! I love the felt chevrons from Rainbow Splendour too, so easy to use.

So that is it for today, thanks for stopping by.

July Scrap the Boys Challenge

Well, it has been a while since I have managed a Scrap the Boys challenge, but with having a little down time between semesters I have managed to fit this one in! Yay me! This month is an awesome sketch:

And here is my take on the sketch:

I have used lots of Rainbow Splendour bits from one of their most recent kits as well as some Charms Creations. I also challenged myself to use only some papers from a 6x6 paper pad, this was an old Shimelle line, Starshine, the sketch was perfect for using these sized papers!

A close up of the cluster with some Rainbow Splendour bits.

And the other cluster, using some tabs and a flag to make a banner, finished off with some more RS goodies!

It was great to finally get these photos of my boy scrapped too! Thanks for stopping by,

Scrap the Boys February Challenge

Back for another February challenge share. Today I am sharing my take on the Scrap the Boys challenge, which is to scrap your boys/men and something new.

I decided to scrap my boy and his first day of high school - a new school and a new phase in his life too. I also decided to use my new Cocoa Vanilla Wild at Heart collection, challenging myself to use it for a boy page, and it was no trouble at all! Here is what I created:

There were lots of lovely blue tones in this paper collection and they worked perfectly with my photo and Liam's blue shirt. I love the watercolour paper, it is just divine, I am starting to think I may end up needing more of this collection!

I used some of the chipboard and phrase stickers from the collection also, teamed with some Rainbow Splendour goodies here.

And my new favourites in the Charms Creations store, light denim, in this case with blue, teamed perfectly with this page. Add in a cool arrow from Rainbow Splendour and a few other bits and we have a great embellishment cluster.

And in the spirit of trying to use up things that I have, here is an old frame from a Crate Paper collection (I think...), a great way to frame the writing on the photo.

Scrap the Boys Share

Good Afternoon! I have been on uni break for just over two weeks now and the time is flying, I wish it would slow down just a little. But, on a positive I have managed to do some scrapping. Today I am sharing the page that I have created for the July Scrap the Boys challenge, which is to be inspired by the following image:

When I saw the challenge I knew that I had the perfect photos to use, and since Charms Creations is a sponsor I knew that I had to include at least one of those too. I started with making a background in sandy and sea colours and then started adding things on top!

I kept the colours pretty much to the blues and teals and threw in some ochre yellow. I even found an acetate cloud in the perfect teal to go with my grouping of clouds!

In my grouping of clouds is a silver glitter Charms Creations cloud, a Rainbow Splendour wood veneer cloud and the acetate cloud, a great mix of colour size and texture!

The other perfect add was the sandstone heart also from Charms Creations. it is a perfect neutral if you need something subtle, but in my case I thought it was a perfect match for the colours in the rocks that my boy is sitting on.

So that is it, my Scrap the Boys page. I hope you have a go and maybe you might be a lucky winner of some gorgeous Charms goodies!

Scrap the Boys February Challenge

Well another year is well and truly off at a sprint! But now that school is back in swing I have been finding some pockets of time for myself! With that time I decided to have a go at the new Scrap the Boys challenge which happened to be a sketch! I do love a sketch!

And this is what I came up with:

This is my little man on his first day back at school last year, because we don't want to rush these things! I have also made a little deal with myself to try and use more of the stash of embellishments that I have collected and also to stamp more!  (Not that it is stopping me from buying more of course...) To that end I have used some bronze foiled stars and letters from Studio Calico on this page and stamped some labels as well as the date. Oh and the paper is an older SC range.

I have split the Rainbow Splendour vellum bow on either side of the photo and found it is a great way to utilise these bows without the need for quite so much space. One part of the bow is layered with some leaves, also from Rainbow Splendour and also a Charms Creations Super Star. On the other side of the photo is a cute Terrific Tab also from Charms Creations.

I quite like these bronze foiled stars! And I must use my label stamps more often, so great for layering and journaling.

So that is it from me today. Thanks for stopping by,

Katie x

New Month, New Year, New Challenges!

Happy New Year! I hope you celebrated the new year just the way you wanted! I did, which meant normal time in bed and up the next morning as usual. We have discovered that our sleep routine is much more important than staying up to see the clock tick past midnight.

Along with a new year we have a new month and hence loads of new challenges. I have a few pages to share for some of the great challenges out there, but I won't overload you with them all in one post (not to mention confuse myself too, it doesn't take much these days!).

I am going to start with Scrap the Boys, as this is my last month on the creative team. It has been a great team to be on and I will continue to *try* and do the challenges. I am looking forward to seeing who will take over the reigns.

This month is an inspiration board with a great mix of colours, but not ones you might automatically reach for on a boys page.

And this is the page that I created:

I loved using some Flutterby Designs flair (perfect place for boy themed flair if you are looking!) and one of their cool stencils.

Still loving the DIY Charms Creations, this time an arrow with a splattering of purple. I misted some different greens on cardstock (actually a failed first attempt at an idea for this page!) and then drew my title and cut it out. White gel pen helps make it pop on the green background.

Here is a cloe up of that cool boy flair I was talking about, and you can see the pattern from the stencil too.

I hope you go and check out the rest of the team's inspiration and maybe have a go at this challenge too. You might just find you love these colours together just as I did!

Scrap the Boys December

Christmas is closing in fast! Are you all ready? I am almost there, but boy the days are disappearing fast in this house, I don't think December birthday's help with this!

But here I am to share my Scrap the Boys December page, which this month is a sketch. I decided to shrink the sketch and put it in the top corner of my page, it just seemed to work better with my photo and plan!

And this is my page, see if you can find the sketch in there! I promise it is there! And it shows there is more than one way to approach a sketch.

I have used Made of Awesome again by Cocoa Vanilla, loving all of Zoe's great paper collections! Hmmm that reminds me I might need to go and buy myself a Christmas present....

I am loving layering with my Charms Creations right now, and it is so easy to do. On the star I have stapled a vellum star from the Made of Awesome collection and added some wood veneer on top (also from the collection).

And here I stapled a die cut arrow on top of my Charms arrow. Still loving and using my D-lish Scraps journal its too! My pile is admittedly rather large, but they are so easy to use!

So, why don't you go and check out the rest of the teams inspiration for the sketch and then have a go yourself?!

Mid Month Reveal Scrap the Boys

Now, I know that I am a bit late with blogging my Scrap the Boys page, but in my defense I have been running around like a crazy woman finishing off Kindy photos for the year! So, today I have a bit of free time... better late than never I say!

This month is a great photo inspiration for Scrap the Boys:

And given how much my Liam loves his food this was an easy one! I played with some of the gorgeous Cocoa Vanilla collection that I won a little while ago and finished with this:

I love how easily this page came together with the Cocoa Vanilla "Made of Awesome" as my starting point!

Those vellum stars are too cute! And the die cuts are awesome!

I even managed to include a Charms Creations Terrific Tab. These are such versatile little embellishments, and perfect for layering with!

So there you go, now it is your turn to go and scrap your boy!

Scrap the Boys October

So, I am a little late getting this one up as I was up at the beginning of the month, and now we are having the mid-month reveals... Oh well, better late than never I guess!

This month the challenge at Scrap the Boys is to use this inspiration board:

I was drawn to the colours, the wood and the arrow/quote, and this is the page I created:

I started with this great patterned paper from Kaisercraft and swiped some gesso over to create my photo space. On the gesso I layered washi tape with arrows (two different styles) and then stamped with arrows, feathers and x's. There is also a bit of torn wood grain washi too.

This Charms Creation with book paper was perfect for this page, it suits the mellow and natural tones.

Layered behind the photo is some tulle and dictionary printed vellum which ties in with the Charms Creation arrow.

I used the quote as my title and used wood grain letter stickers (also from Kaisercraft) so it almost looks "cut out" with the background showing through.

I really enjoyed this challenge and I hope to see lots of your entries too!

Scrap the Boys September Share

Happy Wednesday! Yesterday saw the mid month reveal for Scrap the Boys so I can now share my sample for this month. We had an awesome sketch to work with this month, and at the time that I was creating this I was in a Pink Fresh Studio mood! (Actually it was a use up my ever growing collection of Pink Fresh products!)

Here is the sketch:

 And here is my sample:

I love how this page is full of non-traditional boy colours, but the colours work so well with the fun carnival feel in the photos!

With the cloud theme to the papers/embellishments I was able to add in some of the cool clouds from Charms Creations too.

The Pink Fresh goodies are great to layer with. Here I have used a canvas pocket tag, enamel frame, puffy stickers and die cut.

I decided that I didn't need a huge title so I simply wrote this on the label that I had layered with other embellishments.

So, there you have it, a great sketch to play with, check out all the other great samples here, and I can't wait to see yours!

Thanks for stopping by,

Scrap the Boys share for August

Another month has rolled around and that means time for a new challenge at Scrap the Boys. This month the challenge was to be inspired by or use the following quote:

You can also use a photo of you and your boy for this challenge. I firstly got inspired by the colours from the image and the little soft hearts in the jar so thought I would try and use these ideas in my design also, and as I had recently managed to get a couple of good photos of my boy I decided to use them and not one including me.

For my background I decided to play around with the bokeh technique, but instead of using a circle shape I went with a heart shape to experiment, and I was thrilled with the outcome!

Other than the background, the rest of the page is fairly simple. I am loving playing with the punchinella from D-lish Scraps, and the cool crosses (or x's) from Charms Creations are awesome to play with too.

I love to layer the Charms Creations and create a cluster with them to really ground them in the page design. Here I layered with a flair button and journal spot (both also from D-lish Scraps).

I do really love how the bokeh effect came out. To do this I started with some distress inks and gently covered and blended them on the background, I then gently misted this with water to soften the effect and let them blend a bit more. (I think I used cracked pistachio and tumbled glass.) Then I cut a heart shape in three different sizes out of card to use as a mask. (Using the negative cut of the heart.)

Starting with the biggest heart I randomly inked the heart with white ink around the page and let it dry. Then I did the same with the next size, allowing overlaps here and there, and finally finishing with the smallest heart doing the same thing. I did go back over the smallest hearts for a second time with the ink to make them stand out a little more. But otherwise this is a really simple technique and it created such a soft and dreamy effect.

Make sure you stop by the Scrap the Boys page and check out the other great samples by the team and remember there will be a second reveal mid-month.

Thanks for stopping by,

Katie x
